Getting close to the rooftop scene

I am half way through The Hour I First Believe by Wally Lamb.  I always seem to have difficulty with books that are tomes - I drift off a bit.  It is good so far though the author does bring in a lot of different topics through a lot of different characters.  I am wondering if I will eventually agree with Lori?  Not just yet though.
